Mission

This institute performs the following tasks in the highly productive waters around Hokkaido and other nearby subarctic regions:
(1) Researches on salmon enhancement, biology, and population dynamics for the efficient use,
(2) Researches on abundance fluctuations and management methods of the major marine resources such as walleye pollock, Japanese common squid, and snow crab for the sustainable use and studies on relationships between the fisheries and marine ecosystems,
(3) Assessment on productivity of coastal ecosystem affected by marine environment fluctuation and global climate change, and developing biology and technology for aquaculture and stock enhancement to achieve sustainable production of coastal fisheries under the current status of productivity.
